Poet, writer performer. In 2011, she won a place on the TS Eliot / Old Vic New Voices Award to help develop her theatre writing and practice in New York. Other highlights in 2011 have so far been the Made From Scratch Theatre New Writing Award; her first mini-opera, Sancerre, produced at the Royal Opera House; a playwriting attachment with Tamasha & Mulberry School and her debut solo show Dry Ice At the Edinburgh Festival with 5 * reviews

Short Biography

Sabrina Mahfouz is a playwright, poet and performer. She draws inspiration from - amongst many things - her diverse cultural heritage, to create theatre and poetry that is unpretentious, relevant, accessible and punchy. Her debut solo show, Dry Ice, was recently nominated for The Stage Awards Best Solo Show at Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2011. Over the past 18 months she has been blessed with a TS Eliot Award from Old Vic New Voices; a Creative in Residence Award from the Hospital Club; a UK Young Artists Award for her poetry collective Point Blank Poets; an IdeasTap Group Award; a Made From Scratch Theatre New Writer Award and a Westminster Prize for New Playwrights.

Pickthall painted fascinating pictures of a world that is unfortunately not shown to us at school, but that are just as important a part of British history as any stories told by Dickens and Austen. I look forward to being able to open these hidden worlds and invite a new generation to see what Pickthall saw.
